About The Cringe

The Cringe started with a question everyone has asked at 2am: "Am I the only one trying here?"

We all screenshot chats to our friends and ask them to read between the lines. Our friends are kind, but they are not great at counting. So we built a tool that is.

What The Cringe does

The Cringe reads a WhatsApp conversation between you and one other person and turns it into a simple report:

  • Free stats: messages sent by each person, average reply times, who starts conversations, the first message date, the longest message, the most used words and the number of deleted messages.
  • AI report (subscription): interest level, attachment styles, red flags with real quotes, and an honest final verdict.

It is made for crushes, situationships, couples, exes and friends. It is made for fun and for clarity. It is not therapy and it is not professional advice.

Three ways to use it

  • On the web: export a chat and drop it on thecringe.app.
  • On a laptop: the Chrome extension works directly inside WhatsApp Web.
  • On your phone: the partner app The Cringe: Chat Wrapped for iPhone and Android.

How we treat your chats

Your messages are private, and we built The Cringe around that:

  • The free stats are calculated in your browser or in the extension. Your chat file is not uploaded for them.
  • If you unlock the AI report, we send a short part of your recent messages, with names, phone numbers, emails and links removed. It is used to write your report and is not stored afterwards.
  • We never ask for your WhatsApp password, and we can only see chats you choose to analyze yourself.

Read the full privacy policy.

What we will not do

  • We won't help anyone read someone else's messages.
  • We won't claim to recover deleted messages. We only count them.
  • We won't pretend the AI is always right. It is a second opinion.
