How the quiz works
You read 12 statements and choose how often each one happens: never, sometimes, often or almost always. Your answers become a toxicity score from 0 to 100%. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
The quiz works for any relationship and any gender. It can also help to answer it about a friendship.
What makes a relationship toxic?
A toxic relationship is one where you often feel scared, guilty, controlled or small. Every couple fights. The difference is how often it happens, how it feels, and whether it gets better after you talk.
The most common signs:
- You walk on eggshells. You think twice before saying normal things.
- Control. Checking your phone, deciding who you can see, getting angry when you go out.
- Guilt as a tool. "After everything I've done for you…"
- Silent treatment. Ignoring you for hours or days to punish you.
- Your feelings are always "too much".
- You lose your people. You see friends and family less, little by little.
- Fights get personal. Insults, old mistakes, threats to leave.

Toxic or just going through a hard time?
Hard times happen: stress, distance, a big change. A hard time feels like "us against the problem". A toxic pattern feels like "me against you", again and again. Ask yourself: when I bring something up calmly, does it get better, or do I get punished for it?
What to do if your score is high
- Talk to one person you trust. Saying it out loud makes things clearer.
- Write down what happens. Dates, words, how you felt. It helps you trust your own memory.
- Talk about one behavior, when you feel safe: "When you check my phone, I feel you don't trust me."
- Your safety comes first. If you are afraid of your partner, contact a local support line. In the US, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is free and open 24/7 at 1-800-799-7233.
Your messages show patterns too
Toxic patterns are often visible in texts: guilt trips after you go out, "why are you ignoring me?" after 10 minutes, long silences used as punishment. The Cringe's AI report points out red flags with the real lines from your chat.
## FAQWhat are the signs of a toxic relationship?
Feeling nervous around your partner, being controlled or checked on, guilt trips, silent treatment, seeing your friends less, and fights that get personal. One bad day isn't toxic. A repeating pattern is.
Can a toxic relationship become healthy?
Sometimes, when both people see the problem and really work on it, often with help. It doesn't work if only one person is trying.
Am I the toxic one?
If you're asking, that's a good sign. Take the quiz again and answer as your partner would about you. Patterns like jealousy, guilt trips or silence are worth fixing, whoever does them.
Is this quiz a diagnosis?
No. It's a self-check to help you see patterns. If something here worries you, talk to a counselor or a support line.
