Short answer: A love calculator turns two names into a love percentage from 0 to 100%. Type your name and your crush's name, press the button, and you get a score with a short result, from "Soulmate energy" to "Opposites attract?". It's a fun game, not a real test of love, so laugh, take a screenshot, and then look at how they actually treat you.
How our love calculator works
You type two names. The calculator turns the letters of both names into one number between 0 and 100, and that number is your love match. It takes a second, and there's nothing to sign up for.
A few things to know before you try ten different pairs:
- The same pair always gives the same result. Type "Sam" and "Alex" today and again next month, and the score won't change. Your mood, the time of day and how many times you press the button make no difference.
- Order doesn't matter. "Sam and Alex" and "Alex and Sam" are the same couple, so they get the same score.
- Spelling does matter. To the calculator, "Alex" and "Alexander" are different names, so the score can change. That's why people try full names, nicknames and pet names.
- It's for fun, not science. Letters can't measure love, chemistry or trust. Your parents picked your name long before you met your crush.
What each love percentage means
| Love score | Result | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 90 to 100% | Soulmate energy | The names love each other. Enjoy it, and show the screenshot to your crush if you dare. |
| 75 to 89% | A real spark | A strong match. There's chemistry here, so it's worth seeing where this goes. |
| 55 to 74% | Good chemistry | A solid start. It can turn into something great if you both put in effort. |
| 35 to 54% | Friends first? | There's something, but maybe more friendship than fireworks for now. Slow burns are real. |
| 0 to 34% | Opposites attract? | The names aren't sure about this one. Good thing names aren't the whole story. |
A low score says nothing about a real couple. Two people can be great together and get 20%, and a 99% match can still end after one awkward coffee. Treat the number like a horoscope: fun to read, not something to plan your life around.
Why name love tests are so popular
Love calculators are an old favorite. People played them in school notebooks and magazines long before smartphones, and they never really went away. The fun part isn't the number. It's the excuse to type your crush's name next to yours, and to send the result to your best friend with three crying emoji.
They're also an easy way to flirt. Sending "the love calculator says we're 87%, sorry, I don't make the rules" is a lot less scary than saying "I like you". If they play along and send their own result back, that tells you more than the score does.
Better signs than a name score
If you want to know if someone likes you, look at what they do, not at the letters in their name. The signs that really matter are simple:
- They text first, at least some of the time. Our guide on who texts first explains what that says about interest.
- They reply in a steady way, not fast one day and gone for three days.
- They ask you questions and remember your answers.
- They make plans and keep them.
For more, read the signs he likes you or the signs she likes you over text. If you want a score based on real behavior instead of names, take the does he like me quiz. It asks 10 quick questions about how he texts you.
Try FLAMES too
If you liked this, play the FLAMES calculator next. It's the classic school game where two names decide if you're Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies or Siblings. Like the love calculator, it's just for fun, and it's even better when the answer is "Siblings" and you have to explain it to your crush.
What your real chat can tell you
A name score is a game. Your WhatsApp chat is real. When you upload a chat to The Cringe, you see who texts first, each person's average reply time, how many messages each of you sent and your top words. The AI report adds an interest level for each person, so you can see who is more into the conversation. Uploading is free with no sign-up, and the full report comes with Premium.
FAQ
Is the love calculator accurate?
No. A love calculator is a game, and names can't predict love. Use it for fun, and look at how someone treats you for the real answer.
How does a love calculator work?
It turns the letters of two names into a number from 0 to 100. Ours always gives the same score for the same two names, in any order.
Why do I always get the same love percentage?
Because the score comes from the names only, so pressing the button again won't change it. Try a nickname or a full name if you want a new number.
What is a good love percentage?
On our calculator, 75% or more is a strong match and 90% or more is "Soulmate energy". A low score means nothing about a real relationship.
Can I test friends or celebrities?
Yes. You can test any two names: friends, celebrities or even your pet. Same game, same rules.
